Belief and Practise

What we Believe :

We believe the Bible to be the Word of God, and in its plenary inspiration in its original autographs. (2 Tim 3:16)

Concerning the Lord Jesus, the Son of God, we believe in His :-

• Virgin Birth. (Matt 1:23), (Luke 1:26-33)

• Sinless Life. (Heb 4:15), (1 Pet 2:21-22)

• Atoning Death. (1 Pet 3:18)

• Bodily Resurrection. (1 Cor 15:1-4)

• Wonderous Ascension. (John 20:17), (Luke 24:50-51)

• High Priestly Work. (1 Pet 2:5), (Heb 4:14-16)

• Imminent Return. (John 14:2-3), (1 Thess 4:13-18)

• Glorious Appearing. (Matt 24:27-30), (2 Thess 1:7-10)

• Millennial Reign. (Psalm 72:7), (Isa 2:2-4 11:1-10), (Rev 19:16)

• Awful Judgement. (Acts 18:31), (John 5:22), (Rev 20:11-15)

• Final Triumph. (Luke 1:32-33), (1 Cor 15:28)

What we Practise :

Our primary purpose is to worship the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Rom 15:5-6), (John 4:23), (1 Pet 1:3)

We seek to implement the command of the Lord Jesus to make disciples by preaching the gospel of God concerning His Son (Rom 1:1-3), teaching those who gladly recieve His word to observe all things commanded by the Lord. (Matt 28:19-20)

We observe the ordinances given by the Lord Jesus Christ for His people :-

• Baptism by immersion of all true believers in Him. (Matt 28:19), (Acts 8:32)

• The Breaking of the Bread, where as disciples we gather to keep His command, namely, "This do in remembrance of Me" and in so doing we "proclaim the Lord's death till He come". (Luke 22:19), (Acts 2:42), (1 Cor 11:23-26)

History

Early History :

The history of this local church can be traced back to 1894 when it was established. In this year a group of Christians began to meet in the building called 'Barrhead Gospel Hall' at Chappell Street, Barrhead where they established this independent local church based simply on New Testament principles.

This was now a place which was associated with the worship of God. This was no doubt a poignant reminder in the years that would follow of two world wars and acute social depression that in a turbulent world, only the Lord Jesus Christ whom they worshiped stays the same.

1994 was the centenary year for this gospel hall and the copy documents below were created to celebrate this 100 year event.

Current :

As a church we gather together to remember the Lord Jesus Christ every Sunday. We share bread and wine in accordance with the request of the Lord Jesus Christ and subsequent instruction. (1 Cor 11:17-34)

There is no fixed format to the service although we usually sing, pray and read the Bible before and after we share the bread and wine. The central purpose of the service is the remembrance of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Lord's supper.

Participation in the Lord's supper at Barrhead Gospel Hall is for Christians in our church and those who join with us in order to remember their Lord.
